Poway Girls Softball League was begun in the mid-1960's. It was created to provide a venue for girls between the ages of 5 and 18 to play fastpich softball. Fastpitch softball is played throughout the world and is an Olympic sport. The league welcomes girls of all abilities and is entirely volunteer staffed.

The league plays 3 seasons, a spring season, a summer All-Star season and a fall season. The predominate use of the ballfields is as a practice facility.

Practices are a low use, low noise affair with on average 12 girls and a coach on hand at each field. The time is used to instruct the girls on the techiques of hitting and fielding.

Game play at the park, when all fields would be in use, is only during the spring season.

Practices are the biggest use of the ball fields. They generate limited noise and are very low impact to the park.

The league's main season runs from January to mid-May. Teams for this spring season are formed in late January and begin practice in February. The league uses four fields at Midland Elementary, 2 city fields and 3 fields at Garden Road Elementary during the February practice time. Practices are after school and on Saturday during February. In March the teams begin playing games on Saturday and continue to practice after school during the week. Once the time changes to Daylight Savings Time the teams play games after school during the week and continue to play on Saturdays. The season ends in mid-May.   Poway Girls Softball League is a financially stable organization. The league is completely self funded. Our registration fees are among the lowest in southern California. Yet we provide uniforms, bats, balls and umpires for the league. Our equipment meets the highest safety standards. Provided we have room in the league every girl is allowed to play, regardless of financial ability to pay.
The summer All-Star season runs from mid-May through the end of July. During this time the fields are utilized for practices only. A typical year will have a total of 7 All-Star teams which travel to other cities to participate in tournaments. One weekend during July we host the Summer Heat Classic where teams from other cities come to Poway. The tournament runs from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Games are played throughout this weekend and this is the number one fundraiser for the league.

During the fall the league typically has around 8 teams that use the fields for 1 practice each per week. These teams play a home and away schedule with all games played on Sunday. On a typical Sunday the park would have 2 games on half of the fields.
